General:

With a beautiful and streamlined design, Cessna's 340 still holds the hearts of many light twin lovers all over the world. Beginning production in the late 1960s, the 340 was first delivered in 1971 as a smaller pressurized twin borrowing aspects of the 310 and 414. Although fewer model variants were introduced by Cessna, the 340 was still hailed as a success by the aviation community. The 340 provided a smooth, comfortable ride for 4 passengers and 2 pilots with an approximate range of 600-700nm. The 340A model brought an increase in horsepower and a reduction in propeller diameter to reduce noise/vibration. Even with all these things to its credit, the 340's main selling point was its unrivaled pressurized cabin.

In production for almost 15 years, Cessna's 340 became a solid choice for aircraft owners wanting to enter the cabin-class twin market affordably. With more models and variants than any other airframe manufacturer, Cessna proved it had a stronghold on the light twin industry of the 70s and 80s. Many individuals made the Cessna 340 decision based on the ability to travel faster, higher, and safer than any single/twin engine platform in production at the time.
