EAA AirVenture: An Aviation Pilgrimage

I’ve always liked Wisconsin. From the bustling old-big-city feel of Milwaukee to the relaxed countryside, Wisconsin almost immediately conjures thoughts of bratwurst, grilled corn, and really nice folks. Great cheese, good German food, and excellent beer aside, Wisconsin is home to EAA AirVenture, an annual pilgrimage of aviation enthusiasts of all flavors. This year I was fortunate to have the opportunity to accompany a customer to AirVenture in, appropriately, a home-built Vans RV-10.

ADS-B Get Ready for 2020!

A lot of the discussion I have seen online about ADS-B has been focused on the politics. There is a great deal of resistance to the ADS-B mandate due to the financial burden it places on aircraft owners. Groups such as AOPA are actively advocating for aircraft owners in an attempt to delay the mandate. Regardless of your feelings about whether ADS-B is a benefit, it would be wise to be prepared for the mandate.

A Detailed Review of the New HondaJet

I first saw the HondaJet in person at EAA AirVenture last year. Honda hosted a huge crowd and hundreds of people gathered under the Honda tent just to catch a glimpse of the revolutionary jet. With the composite fuselage and over-the-wing engine design, this sleek airplane has exceptional ramp appeal. The wings are designed with a smooth surface allowing for laminar flow over the wings, which increases the efficiency and improves the aerodynamics of the aircraft.

On March 31, 2016, the “green books” pilots depend on will change its official name from Airport/Facility Directory (AF/D) to U.S. Chart Supplement. In its charting notice to announce the change, the FAA said the update will bring the publication in line with Interagency Air Cartographic (AICC) 8 guidelines for printed material.
