Challenge Air Fly Day at Conroe – North Houston Regional Airport
Conroe – North Houston Regional Airport (KCXO) will host Challenge Air Fly Day on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 9 am – 4pm. This one-day event offers special needs children and youths the opportunity to build their confidence and self esteem through the experience of flight. Highlights of the day will include an educational ground school, a 30-minute flight, face painting, clowns, cool static aircraft, lunch, service animals and much more! To register as a day-of volunteer, volunteer pilot, or as a participant (first come-first served and free for all children with special needs) log on to: www.challengeair.org
Challenge Air was created in 1993 by founder Rick Amber, who believed that “every disabled person should see the world from a different view …out of their wheelchairs and in the sky.” As a U.S. Navy fighter pilot, Rick lost the use of both his legs at age 26 when his jet crashed on the deck of an aircraft carrier as he was returning from his 109th mission over Vietnam. The idea of Challenge Air took off after Amber invited a group of physically challenged children on a flight over the Addison skyline. He realized that overcoming his disability helped the kids change their perception about disability. By eliminating the belief that they are limited, children can grow to their full potential. They are given the opportunity to find courage within themselves and build in areas where they lack self-esteem. Challenge Air provides an unforgettable growing experience that opens the door to possibilities while allowing the children to see that if they can fly a plane they can do anything.
This year’s Fly Day will be held at Conroe – North Houston Regional Airport, Hangar 25, 10013 Military Drive, Conroe, TX 77303 and is free for all children and youth (ages 7 – 21) with special needs. For more information contact Juliet Siddons at (214) 351-3353 or email [email protected].
“The human spirit prevails over any physical or mental obstacle. After a day with Challenge Air, no height seems unreachable…all it takes is desire and truly, the sky is the limit!” – Rick Amber
